Of the six disadvantages discussed in the class textbook (Need access to sun, Low efficiency, Need electricity storage system or backup, High land use, high costs, and DC current must be converted to AC) all are seemingly not a huge sacrifice. The most important problem that I can see, as far as for the U.S. consumer industry, is the high cost, which is expected to reach a competitive level for the energy industry within the next 10 to 15 years.
