Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet; The Book and Movies Major Differences Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare was, is, and will always be considered a timeless classic to many people. Romeo and Juliet are said to be "star-crossed" as well as “death-marked" lovers (Shakespeare 1). Throughout the play as a reader it is sensed as well as assumed that the hatred between both families goes back centuries. The modern movie version of the play, Romeo and Juliet, differs from Shakespeare’s play in setting and clothing, how the characters meet, how the lovers take their lives, and how the music as well as the use of color helps to set the mood. Romeo and Juliet is an example of one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. The story takes place in Verona, Mantua. Baz Lubrmann sets the modern day version William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in Verona Beach, Florida in a modern day society. There are many different settings as well as different scenes in both the play and in the movie.
