Segregated Schools Women should not have the option of being split up from men in the classroom because it will create a bad schooling environment for both sexes in the long run. Separating men and women in the classroom will have many bad repercussions that will come with it. For one, women will not get the experience of working with males in a business environment. Also, women will have a strong possibility of creating an inferiority complex when this separation occurs. This is not the best way to solve the problem of women’s participation levels in class. Women do have a tough time in classes participating when they are seated with males. People all over the nation recognize this problem. Teachers notice it everyday in class discussion. Mrs. Julia Roberts, an eighth grade teacher at Presentation of Our Lady School in Denver, had this to say about the situation: “It’s insane how much more the boys jump on each of the questions. They’re so competitive with each other…the girls don’t get a chance to say one word…” This phenomenon in the classrooms of junior high school seems to persist throughout the college career also.
