Although women represent over half of the student body, they are a small percentage that graduate in math and science. (National Science Foundation,200). The authors look at the question, how under representation of females reflect gender makeup, tokenism, and stereotypes in classrooms. It can also explain how females perform under the pressure of negative stereotypes in math and science. The authors make an argument that the females in a group adds the awareness of ones gender which increases negative stereotypes associated with that.
