White Teacher Talks About Race Julie Landsman gives off a unique and inspiring aspect in teaching a complex culture in her book, “A White Teacher Talks about Race.” I have learned the many different qualities and responsibilities teachers need to hold in order to understand and be able to relate with their students. What I respected the most is how Julie strived to reach her students in such a subtle way. The education system isn’t going to change within a matter of months or years it will take decades to keep the progression of change to take effect. It is the teacher’s responsibility over those years to keep the students best interest in mind. Julie made a great point stating that the laws will have to soften and our minds open. Teacher need to look at the long run and see that everything they do will mold the future even though they do not see the results now. The children are our future and as a teacher it is essential to benefit their education regardless of location, culture or race. I’m tired of society placing labels on groups of people and stereotyping city schools to be underachievers.
