“Fertility Mother” and the rock painting of British ships

下面为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文- Fertility Mother and the rock painting of British ships,供大家参考学习,这篇论文讨论了绘画作品。

The two specific examples I want to discuss are the “Fertility Mother” and the rock painting of British ships from the central panel at Djulirri. The “Fertility Mother” is a painting of the land mother surrounded by her people. The land mother is a part-animal and part-human God who gives birth to her people and blesses them. The painting is based on Aboriginal Australians’ religion Dreamtime. The image of the land mother shows that Aboriginal Australians perceive themselves as being guarded by the God from Dreamtime and the worship to the guardian is an important part of their lives.

The painting of the British ship is quite complex. It is depicted in X-ray form with cargo hold and sails. There is an arm of a crocodile above the ship and the head of a sea turtle on the left of the ship. The painting is created after Aboriginal Australians have contact with British arrivals. The interior details of the British ship show that Aboriginal Australians have chance to get into the ship and probably work in there. The crocodile and sea turtle around the ship shows the relationship between nature and the sailing ship. The gigantic crocodile seems be able to control the ship. This probably reflects the danger of sailing on the sea. It is interesting to see Aboriginal Australians’ perception of changes in their lives. The involvement of new subjects in their traditional paintings shows their natural interest in new things.

Comment on ALISSA B ESSIG

Great analysis of the two paintings! I am also very interested in the “Birth of Butterfly”. The never-ending circle seems to be able to absorb everything into the hole and also release everything to the world, which represents a never-ending spiral of life and death. But I am still confused about the symbol of butterfly. Does it have a particular meaning to Aboriginal Australians? Hope someone can explain it!
