Based on NAMI’s report, African-American are less likely to receive accurate diagnosis than their Caucasian counterparts. Many African-American cannot get professional treatment because of their socioeconomic disadvantage in terms of accessing both medical and mental health care. The wellness of African-Americans has also become our biggest concern. Our CEO, Mr. Jones has told his board members more than once that the under-diagnosis of mental illness among African-Americans needs our attention. With his strenuous efforts, the board has finally agreed on the donation. Mr. Jones once said to us in a meeting: Our Lives lives on African-Americans, they are our parents, they are our brothers and sisters, we belong to a family. Family members should take care of each other. African-Americans always been taking care of us, so we should never forget taking care of them. I think the decision of such a big donation is the way we take care of African-Americans. We believe NAMI, as the largest mental health organization will surely make the best of the money and bring bright futures into many more African-American fellowmen.
