Due to the influence of pop soap opera and Hollywood chick flicks about intense romantic love, a lot of teenagers who are still studying in junior high school also have desires to try to have love relationships like those in the TV series. In fact, nowadays, puppy love is not only about having a crush on a person of the opposite sex or the person of the same sex when a student is still in his or her childhood or adolescence. On the contrary, now having puppy love or kitten love has become a fashion in many high schools. It is commonly accepted by a lot of teenage girls that having a boyfriend or a girlfriend means that person is cool and attractive while if that person is unable to bring a partner to the junior prom, it means this person is too ugly or weird to get a lover.

The behavior of puppy love is generally considered to be normal for a lot of teenage girls while the behavior has been popular among these students. Recently, if we take walk down the street near a high school, we are able to see a lot of teenagers who are holding hands or cuddling together while they are waiting for the bus.

These teenage girls have defended their actions by saying that their first love in school is a lot purer than those adult lovers in the companies because they admire and love a person out of pure passion and admiration while the adults in the companies chose to love a person because this person is wealthy and they want to get money out of him or her. I find this problematic because these teenage girls are still living the best days of their lives while they did not have to worry about making money or renting a place since their parents have paid them educational fees, food and clothes. However, real love is not solely based on pure admiration. It is also based on economy, which means a person’s ability to make a living. In fact, most high school lovers’ relationships do not last because while these girls get older, they will have more needs to get material and they finally notice that these are the things that their high school lovers cannot provide.

Also, although teenage girls consider falling in love as normal but I think having puppy love is problematic due to one’s physical development. It is obvious that teenage girls’ bodies have not been fully developed. But nowadays, having puppy love is no longer as simple as cuddling and kissing. A lot of couples in high schools have tried to taste the forbidden food by having sex and this could end up hurting the development of this person’s body. Also most teenage girls have lacked the knowledge of how to protect themselves by using a condom or having birth control bills. Therefore, inappropriate sexual behavior will end up hurting their body and causing infertility.

To sum up, it is normal to hold feelings of admiration towards another person in adolescence. However, having inappropriate puppy love is problematic because firstly, teenage boys and girls do not have economic foundation to support their relationship. In another words, they are not able to make money to support the lives of one another. In addition, having puppy love and having a relationship too early will end up being harmful because the lovers usually have inappropriate sexual behavior too early. What’s worse, teenagers usually fail to take proper methods to protect themselves when they are having sex and there are a lot of teenage mothers who have to go through an abortion or have to drop out of school due to their pregnancy.
