This time, we are assigned to read the book of Moral Ground and A New Environmental Ethics. During the process of reading and discussing with partners, I find that the most important thing is that it makes me realize that we should not take all things provided by nature for granted, instead, we should be thankful to things happened in our life. Moreover, I gradually find out that we should take our moral responsibility and do as much as we can in our daily life to protect our environment, and if not, the environmental changes will bring not only serious harms to the future, but our human beings life. So I really enjoy this reading and I hope that from now, I can be a responsible student and take care of our environment at least from myself.

This experience of reading with our classmates reminds me of my personal experience. I used to live at a small village where the climate is comfort and air is clean. Ten years later, however, after the paper manufacturing factory moved into our village, bad things happened. Since it poured sewage into our river, the river became more and more dirty and finally, there was no fish in it and no one would swim in it. Climate changes because of our irresponsible behavior and crazy pursuit of money and economic development. So since then, I gradually realized that we should prevent those people from damaging the environment and planet we inherited, thus to build a brighter future.

So linking my personal experience with this time’s reading, I figure out that it is time to make a change, or our future will be doomed to be faint. “Moral responsibility scientist stated with the 2002 report of the Union of Concerned Scientist that the climate crisis is real, dangerous and upon us”. We can see from The United Nations Climate Change conference, which is about climate change and held every year. In my opinion, although this kind of conference can deal with our climate change and problem to some extent, it still shows the lack of moral obligation. For instance, in Doha, 2012, developed countries’ willing of emission reduction is not enough, as well as their dimension of contribution of capital and public purse provided. It is found that developed countries gradually remove its history responsibility and the tendency of “Common but differentiated responsibilities” becomes more and more clear. So there are still obstacles in the process of dealing with climate change and challenge.

Since the way to handle climate challenge is not smooth, so what should we focus on? As in moral ground, ‘We have a moral obligation to avert harms to the future, so as to leave a world as rich in life and possibility as the world we inherited, therefore, we have a moral obligation to act, and act now.” What will make people motivated to save their beloved world? it is Clearly that information is not enough. “What is missing is the moral imperative, the conviction that assuring our own comfort at terrible cost to the future is not worthy of us as moral beings.” So moral obligation is of great importance. I think people nowadays focus less on moral obligation. “Our press is filled with scientific reports and predictions about the ecological systems our lives and other lives and other lives depend on.”  So we can see that in our life, the discussion about moral things is missed. So we can arose discussion about our obligation to the future and ask those professors and writers to give us advice so as to arose people’s awareness to protect the environment. In this way, all of us will realize that saving a thriving future require not only science and advanced technology, but moral imagination.

Apart from above, I think I was inspired during the process of reading that is we must realize our human’s relationship with nature, we are not the master of nature or the livings who can dominate nature, instead, us, human being, can build a brighter future if we create a harmonious relationship with nature. We can ask ourselves, why our climate changes so fast? Why global warming become more and more serious, why? The answer is we exploit our planet so desperate! We treat it as a tool to get money and to make our life better, but we don’t realize that it will have a bad effect on us human being in turn. A lot of species become extinct, disease become serious, more and more CO2  makes the temperature rise higher than before… So after realizing the bad effect of the damage of nature, we must hold a right opinion of nature, and expend it. We can use objective law to guide our practice, thus to deal with the relationship between human and nature and create advantage for human to get along with nature. What is more, it is not realistic that we stop the path to use nature, so we must use it in an appropriate way instead of exploiting it blindly. We can try hard to utilize resource circularly. Only in this way can we build harmonious relationship. At last, we must protect nature; this is actually the way to protect ourselves.

As a student, the future of our country, I think only if we are responsible and hold our moral obligation can our future and environment become well. Responsibility in my opinion is the biggest gains during the process of reading and gives me new understanding of our environment.
