However, during current times, these particular jobs are rapidly leaving our economy and entering the world economy. A simple definition of outsourcing is to obtain goods or services from an outside or foreign supplier. Outsourcing is beneficial to the world economy and companies but its having a reverse impact on the American economy and its citizens. America is one of the main contenders in the outsourcing arena, and many of our low skilled jobs were given to struggling countries. Although we lost these jobs the higher end jobs were to say here in America. Companies usually send customer service jobs, claims processing job, transcription jobs etc. to foreign economies. But, higher end jobs such as IT positions and journalism opportunities are also leaving us and going into the global workplace

Outsourcing allows individuals in other countries employment opportunities. By sending these jobs to foreign lands we are helping to boost their economies, and raising the standard of living for their citizens. In this scenario it appears as if America is sort of a global big brother lending a hand to humanity. However, on the grand scale, outsourcing is done because it allows companies to make a profit. Some of the countries we funnel jobs to are India, China, Philippines and Mexico. On one hand companies are making a profit and helping under developed countries, but on the other hand the American economy is hurting and many Americans are left jobless. In my opinion, globalism is solely based on monetary gain. It is an absolute financial benefit for companies and its shareholders. Subsequently, globalism is fueled by outsourcing and in the near future Americans will have to compete with a foreign competitor for a job.

Americans are being impacted by the loss of jobs in the U.S economy. Barbara Ehrenriech says “In the 80’s U.S. companies began outsourcing of everything from garment to steel, leaving whole cities to die”. (Ehrenriech 2013). In previous times, many people were able to support their families, with job that required minimum skills. However, these particular jobs are currently being phased out by technology or being removed outside of America. As a result of this, hardworking Americans are left jobless, and waiting in long unemployment lines. In this present time, it is becoming very difficult for middle class Americans to provide for their families. The available job pool for them is slowly draining. To illustrate, some companies have decided to send customer service positions to other countries. To be a customer service rep an individual must have excellent listening and communication skills in order to solve the callers concerns. Due to cultural differences and language barriers outsourcing these callers concerns can result in a negative customer experience which will reflect negatively on the company. Companies are appeased because they are making money but many Americans who loved there customer service job are now placed in a position to seek after a new skill set. Some people do have a genuine passion for their careers, but outsourcing is slowly taking that away from people

In conclusion, the financial gain achieved from outsourcing is not directly assisting the American economy or citizens. American companies should be held liable for the negative role they are playing in the U.S economy. If they choose to outsource jobs to foreign economies they should also create new jobs to fill in the void. As a result of this, the job selection for middle class Americans is minimizing. Outsourcing is beneficial to companies but this practice should be restricted because of the negative impact it has on middle class jobs and the United States economy. Eventually, individuals will not have the privilege of deciding what care

er to pursue because they will have to find jobs that are in demand. Hopefully new jobs will be created but if not people must individually research and find out which careers to pursue. Americans have to become more marketable in this ever changing and growing world economy. Focus must be placed on higher education and or technical schools to enable Americans to become more of a commodity. Career advisors are also excellent people to consult because they have insight on which jobs are expected to stay in the United States.
