In this course I have learnt Art and Design, and it teaches me how to analyze and interpret images that are drawn from various historical and global contexts. All these images are so classical and the history stories they contains always awaken my fancy increasing the values of the compositions in my heart. I have learnt the elements of art including line and color and so on. All the color characters have been learnt and we also examine the associated phenomena and some practices have been done. By learning that I find that every color has some special effects to the whole composition and when I do the exercises applying colors I enjoy the process that some colors are mixed and all of them compose a whole composition.

Although they don’t have any images, they are my first compositions and the beginnings of my road of art. Gradually I can design and I feel excited when my ideas are translated to works. I begin to create works with an artist view and I also live with an attitude of appreciating art looking for the beauties of live. In my opinion, over the past years art has become commercialized and safe because people have paid more attention to interests, few artists can create works freely without influences of interests. Certainly, the competitions between artists are also becoming fierce. In the next ten years, the painting will become more popular again, and more artists will be interested in painting again. And because of the commercialization of art, galleries will be mostly changed into retailers. More and more artists will learn how to create works to meet the business needs.

Bill Viola and Andrew Wyeth

Bill Viola’s art deals with concepts and visions. His art work is mostly related to the mystical religions and history, and he is also interested in dualism. Bill Viola focuses on studying and exploring the unseen mental world such as dream, memory and association and emotional world by video means. His work expresses his thoughts about life, universe and time. Bill Viola’s work applies advanced technology so that it can provide beautiful vision effects and the work created technically often attracts people’s attention.

Another visual artist who technically creates art work is Andrew Wyeth. Andrew Wyeth is mainly a realist painter and his works often under a regionalist style. Compared to Bill Viola, Andrew Wyeth’s works are mainly related to people and land near his hometown. If Bill Viola is an artist who has his head in the clouds, Andrew Wyeth is an artist who integrates his mind with the land. Bill Viola is good at thinking about expressing his mind with abstract vision and Andrew is good at expressing his mind by describing the real beauty in life. They both have high skills to create art work, but Bill Viola applies high science technology with camera and other electronic equipment, and Andrew Wyeth applies simple painting brush. Bill Viola’s work has more characters about cool commercialization while Bill Villa’s work has more characters of love and warmth.

NYC Art world contains a lot of talented artists from all over the world. Artists see NYC as the paradise of art. Therefore NYC Art world is a holy land of art with various art styles. In my country, there are a lot of cities which has art areas too. For example, in Beijing, there is a place called 798 Art Area where there are a lot of artists too, but the kinds of art styles show limitation and most of the artists are Chinese. What’s more, the art of NYC is more open-minded, while the Chinese art is often nostalgic and with styles of simplicity.
