Childhood is always wonderful for every individual since we can do everything we want as little children. We all know clearly that everything is going to change as we grow up. I am no exception. When I was young, everything is simple to me since I believe that my parents would support me to solve any difficulties. However when I grew up, I gradually realized the fact that I can not depend on my parents all the time. With the increase of my age, I become more and more independent.

When I was a primary student, homework is a must for me. To finish my homework, I rely on my father to a great extent since I’m a lazy boy at that time. In the beginning, my father checked my homework for me and I did my homework by myself. Then I began to finish my homework with many difficult questions unsolved since I believed that my father would finish them for me. As time elapses, my father actually did more and more homework for me. At that time, I took my dependence of my father as granted and I have no idea of being independent at all.

When I went to study in a middle school in another city, things began to change a little bit for me. Since I can not depend on my father to solve the problem any longer, I had the sense of independence for the first time. Then I made friends with a lot of new students when I was studying in the middle school. If I had some problem, I turned to them for help with the only difference that they can not solved all problem for me just like my father, which meant that I have to solve some problems by myself. With this difference, I learnt to work out different problems by myself both in study and in real life. In this stage, I started to have the spirit of independence as a student far away from home.

The dramatic change happened when I came to the United States. Suddenly, I had no parents staying with me and I have to adapt to the new environment all by myself, which largely shaped my characteristics of being independent. With different language and different courses, staying abroad was hard for me. Though I missed my parents and my friends, but I knew clearly that memories for the past can not help me and I can only rely on myself. With three years abroad, I kept my parents and friends in my mind and started to live a real independent life. During this stage, I not only knew the true meaning of independence, but also I carried out the theory and became an independent and mature individual.

During the process of my growth, I have depended on my father to solve the problem and I have also depended on my friends to help me. I once thought that I can depend on them forever. However, as I became more and more mature, I finally reach the truth that I myself is the real person that I should depend on. Independence is the most important lesson I have learnt in the past of my life. -w
