Economic globalization

The change from bipolar to multipolar is the most defining incident of the 20th century that reshapes 21st century for it broke down the last barrier of economic globalization and enabled all countries to participate the trend actively. The collapse of USSR symbolized not only the failure of Stalinist socialism but also the breakdown of manmade iron curtains between West and East. The tight control of Soviet Union towards its satellite states in East Europe and Asia made these countries unable to receive the latest achievements of economy of the world, resulting in their lack in technology, food and other import supplies; in addition, they would have to bear the high pressure coming from Soviet Union of not being able to implement the slightest reform of the institution. The 1956 Hungary revolution and the 1968 “Spring of Prague” were the best evidence of the case. With the downfall of Soviet skyscraper, the East European countries were let free to choose their own path and development mode, and the whole Europe was being linked more tightly than ever, giving Europe the power to strengthen itself to become one of the pole.
The end of bipolar situation had also given China great opportunities to strengthen itself. Before the Soviet Union collapsed, it had always been a major threat to China as its northern neighbor. Though implementing similar social systems, the two countries were in constant conflicts with each other back to 1950s. China adopted reform and open policy in 1980s to develop relations with the west and had been succeeding in economic development, but Soviet threat was there to keep China intensified. The disintegration of USSR in 1991 gave China great reliefs in terms of geopolitics, allowing China to introduce its successful experience of developing economy while maintaining basic original social institutes. China soon grew and become a very vital role in international politics, a major power in the evolving multipolar world today.
Russia, being disintegrated from USSR, inherited most of its economic and military power. In the beginning, Russia was deeply involved in the quagmire of economy downturn and loss of faith of people. But after the continuous reign of Vladimir Putin for more than 10 years, Russia stood the external and internal pressure and recovered as one of the major powers of the world, making its old rival, United States challenged in many international affairs. The rise of Europe, China and Russia are the key factors of a multipolar world instead of a mono-polar one, ensuring that all countries have greater opportunities to benefit from international relations instead of being manipulated by a single power only.
