1. What type, style, or genre of dance was presented? Use specific movement examples to support the style of dancing you have identified.
Ballet is a world-known dance style and it has enjoyed a prolonged history as well as successfully gained increasing volume of loyal audience. Originated in the Italian Renaissance courts, it retrospect from fifteen centuries and later introduced to France and Russia As time flew, it developed into a concert dance. These days, ballet has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres.

The Swan Lake Ballet is based on the story of a white swan princess Odette and Prince Siefield. The princess Odette was cursed with spell and only eternal love could unlock her. One day when Prince Siefield went to the lake and saw the beautiful princess Odette. When he wanted to hunt this swan, princess Odette turned into a beautiful girl, and Siefield fell in love with her. Later, another women Odile disguised as Odette and tricked him to vow for their eternal love. As a result, princess Odette was locked in the lake forever. Because Siefield loved her so much, he jumped into the lake with her forever.

A well-known example of this Swan Lake, a four-act   ballet dance works are choreographed and performed by trained artists. The complete Swan Lake has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960s and is now performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in the U.S. Major American ballet companies generate around 40 percent of their annual ticket revenues from performances of the Swan Lake.

2. How did this experience connect to readings, discussions, assignments, guest lectures, movement experiences, or other live dance performances from our class or from your own personal experiences?

I have read about books related to 19th century art history. Toward the end of 18th century and the beginning of 19th century, a romantic period arises. At this period, every art performance or publication is related to romantic. There are always two sides of a romantic performance, usually between light and dark or live and death. Swan Lake is a dance arises from 19th century. In the performance, Princess Odette is white swan who always wears the bright light color, and the opposite Odile is blank swan who always wears dark color. The color of the performing clothes forms a contrast between dark and light which also meets the criteria of this romantic period. Also, the ending of the story switch from live to death of Princess Odette and Prince Siefried. This two elements in the performance prove that it is a brilliant byproduct of romantic period. Therefore, any art forms is a reflection of the era, period, or time that the publication is. All the art publication like Swan Lake have their spirit and meaning that they want to spread. This dance proves the fact that during 19 century, the rising of romantic ballet is a golden period which provides women chances to level up their status in the society.

3.  Using the language of Laban Movement Analysis, describe some of the movement that you experienced. (For longer performances, or shows with multiple dances, choose ONE dance or section to analyze.)

The Princess Odette’s movement is starting from fingers. I feel that my body junction is connected and interrelated together to display a whole landscape and fully illustrate the story. My body language serves as an assistance that helps audience to understand the performance and appreciate dancers and the artistic effect.

The sequencing of movement between parts of the body is strictly required and it also have high standard of patterns of body organization and connectivity, called "Patterns of Total Body Square Connectivity", "Developmental Hyper Movement Patterns", or "Neuromuscular Shape-Shifting Patterns".

4. What was the most memorable dance, section, moment, or experience for you at this event? Say why it was memorable or what about that stayed with you.
I like the ending moment. Even though Prince Siefried was tricked by Odile, he didn’t give up on pursuing his own love. He went back to the lake to find Princes Odette. When he saw Princess Odette was locked in the lake forever, he didn’t give in either. On the contrary, he stayed there with Princess Odette. To be with her forever, he chose to jump into the lake with her. I was touched by Prince Siefried’s spirit of love. In reality, only some couples would sacrifice one for the other. The sacrifice in reality is not as serious as death. Even not as tremendous as this, lovers always wouldn’t accept it. However, at the end of the dance, Prince Siefried used his own performances taught me a lesson- if I really love that person, I should try to stay with that person no matter what happened. I am glad that I attended that performance.

5. Did you like or dislike this performance? Why? What were your general feelings following the event (excited, inspired, disgusted, confused, bored, motivated, etc.)?
Personally, I like this dance. It offers me a feeling of shocking.  Firstly, I admired the dancing ability of Princess Odette. As a ballerina, the role of the Princess Odette is extremely challenging. Odette must perform in a way of gentle and warm. However, at the same time, she also needs to act in the role of Odile- the one who disguises as Odette and tricks Prince Siefried- which is the opposite of Odette bleak and  As the leading role of Swan Lake, Odette must turn thirty two rounds without any interruption. This tests the power of a ballerina’s calf. Besides dancing ability, Swan Lake also tests a dancer’s acting ability. The role of Princess Odette needs to act the scenarios out. Additionally, I like the combination of background music and movement. Because of this combination, the performance is harmonic. As an audience, I was taken to the scene of the performance, and I was totally attracted by the performance. For me, the background music is very successful.
