The Poems of Stevie Smith and Langston Huges

It is known that Stevie Smith and Langston Huges are famous poets in literature fields. Their poems are abstracted, and their words are wonderful to read. In their poems, readers can understand the meaning easily and clearly. What is more, because they describe many wonderful scenery and materials of the world, the readers can think of another way to treat the same things. Therefore, there are a lot of similarities, also they have different styles to express different materials. 

Their poems are about dream and love. It can be seen from Stevie Smith's poem, Black March and Papa Love Baby, he considered baby as the breath. It is known that breath is necessary for humans to live like water, food, and so on. Therefore, because he compared baby with breath, the air, it is known that how important he thought as the baby. He said in the poem "I have a friend end of the world." (Smith, 1971). It is the friend who he could not leave off. However, another poem written by Langston Huges who was a dreamer. 

Although he was not Martin Luther King, he also had the dream about the black. From his poem, "they asked me if my blackness, I said, ask your mama." (Huges, n.d.). It can be seen what desirable dreams he had about Black rights. Otherwise, the black are difficult to live in the countries although the government enact many laws to protect them from being despised. This poem shows how important the society should be respect to the black, even all humans, and the world should live in a peaceful environment without any wars or fight.

Therefore, compared with these two poems, the two poet both were great people. In their poems, I can think of their dream. They hoped the world was wonderful and peaceful. 

Through the poems, the words were very beautiful, such as "but I have seen his eyes, they are as pretty and bright"(Smith, 1971). Smith's style is about metaphors and wish, and he described it as an abstract ways. However, from reader's point, it is not difficult to understand his themes and thinking. Otherwise, about Huges's poems Personal (Huges, n.d.), in an envelope marked, and then reader knew that the god is the receiver. Thus, he provided a huge space and dream for all readers. In his other poems, he often focused on dreams and rights. He also used metaphors in his poems, such as April Rain Song (Huges, n.d.). He put rain compared to the silver liquid drops. It was very beautiful because for some people, rainy days mean sad and depression so that they hate rain. However, through his description of rain, it is wonderful because everyone likes silver, which is valuable and gorgeous. If people who hate rainy day read this poem, they should think rain as beautiful water. Moreover, he described many other benefits of rain, such as "makes running pool in the gutter" and "plays a little sleep song our roof at night" (Huges, n.d.). Readers can understand it clearly about what he wanted to describe.

In conclusion, although Langston Huges and Stevie Smith are poets from different countries with different cultures, both of them had their thinking to express their feelings and meanings in their poems, such as Smith showing love in his poems and Huges's thinking of black rights and his willingness. Poems are not only for readers to read, understand and appreciate, excellent poets like their should also express ideas clearly and easily in indirect ways. Moreover, it is better for people to learn some useful information from the themes of poems.
